Knights golfers win Norway Invitational

NORWAY — The host Norway Knights took the championship over Houghton, 323-330, and 12 other teams in the annual Norway Invitational boys golf meet Friday at Oak Crest Golf Club.

Norway, who won the Niagara Invite at OCGC on April 23, was led Friday by Jeff VanHolla’s 75. Tyler Annala of Westwood also carded a 75, which tied VanHolla for runner-up.

West Iron senior Nathan Thomson was medalist with a 1-over-par 73. Thomson sank a hole-in-one on the par-4 No. 2 during competition.

Matt Solda of Kingsford finished fourth with a 76, while Ricky Brown of Iron Mountain came in fifth with a 77.

The rest of the Knights lineup came in at: Drew Anderson and Carson Chartier with 80, Evan Anderson with 88 and Tyler Parker with a 97.

Kingsford’s Lance Harry and Troy Watt each had a score of 87, followed by Daniel Maki with a 93 and Jack Perpich with a 95. The Flivvers’ 343 was good enough for third place as a team.

Forest Park’s Hunter Loehr was team low with a 101, followed by Ethan Kopf with a 106, Brad Stacy with a 115, Gabe Scarlassara with a 123 and Quinn Premo a 131.

Niagara was led by Oren Loukus with a team low 120, followed by Ava Newingham with a 128. Nate Olson with a 134 and Gavin Holdaway with a 140 rounding out the Badgers’ lineup.

The remainder of Iron Mountain’s lineup was Gabe Celello with a 94, Brett Ramme with a 97, Zac Erickson a 117 and Joey Colavecchi a 120.
