Dickinson County Legion Greens win a trio of home games at LiUNA Field

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Greens (formally Iron Mountain Golds) senior league American Legion baseball team, swept a doubleheader from Houghton, 4-1 and 3-2, at LiUNA Field in Iron Mountain.

In game one Wednesday, Evan Haferkorn drove in a team-high two runs, while Tony Kralovec and Lucas Maxon each drove in a run. Maxon and Blake Julian each had two hits for the Greens.

Sean Durand toed the mound for Dickinson County in the opener, allowing four hits, one unearned run and one walk while fanning three in the complete game performance.

In game two, Durand and Julian each cracked RBI singles, while Maxon had a team-high two hits. A trio of Greens toed the mound, with Haferkorn picking up the win.

On Tuesday, also at LiUNA Field, the Greens defeated Bark River, 9-3.

Nolan Amundson, Kody Hendricks and Julian toed the mound for DC, each fanning two batters apiece, with Amundson picking up the win.

Julian and Kralovec each drove in two runs and had two hits, including a double apiece. Hunter McCarthy and Sawyer Pugh also each had two hits for the Greens, while McCarthy stole two bases.

North Central alum Noah Gorzinski pitched a complete game for Bark River, fanning seven, walking seven and also cracking a double at the plate.

The Greens have games nearly every day next week, beginning with a trip to Sault Ste. Marie for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. DC hosts Marquette on Monday and Gladstone on Tuesday, before traveling to Escanaba on Wednesday and Bark River on Friday.
