FLORENCE, Wis. -- Florence held off Algoma for a 14-6 victory in non-conference 8-player football Friday.

The Bobcats, who led 14-0 at halftime, got interceptions from Evan Johnson, Logan Schuls and William Kelley to thwart any comeback.

"It was good for a young team to win a close game like this," said Florence coach Kent Walstrom.

Johnson led the offense with 119 yards on 12 carries, scoring a touchdown and a conversion. Kelley, playing quarterback, rushed for 58 yards on 15 carries and was 2-of-4 passing for 83 yards with an interception.

Logan Thomson also ran for a Florence score.

Bryce Leffler paced the interior of the Bobcats defense. Leading tacklers were Trent Watkins, Isaiah Fennessy and Kelley.

Florence (1-0) travels to Lena on Thursday.
