Kingsford takes soccer opener, 4-2 over Marinette

1 min read

MARINETTE, Wis. -- Kingsford won its boys soccer opener Tuesday, defeating Marinette, Wis., 4-2, scoring all four goals in the first half, including two by Jaxon Buckley.

Cade Counter, off a pass from Marshall Shorkey, and Niko Przeslakowski, on a header off a cross from Buckley, put Kingsford on the scoreboard early.

"The third goal happened when our goalie, Ethan Gribble, passed the ball from three-quarters of the field to Jaxon Buckley for the score," said Flivvers coach Jeff Gordon. "'The fourth goal came with a great pass from Dennis Neuens to Jaxon Buckley for the score."

The squad consists of mostly seniors and freshmen, Gordon noted.

"I wasn't sure if we would have a good ball flow but they all stepped up and played as a team," he said. "Each teammate is gaining trust with each other and that helps players stay in their positions. Our whole team was able to get playing time," he added.

The Flivvers travel to Escanaba on Tuesday.
