Kingsford tennis ties Esky
KINGSFORD — Kingsford battled to a 4-4 tie against Escanaba in girls tennis action Wednesday.
“A tie with Escanaba is something to be proud of, they have a great program,” said Flivvers coach Tracy Rutter.
Kingsford’s wins came from No. 3 singles Maegen Dooley, 6-4, 6-3 over Sam Manninen; No. 4 singles Ella Rizzo, 7-6, 6-1 over Madison Fulsher; No. 2 doubles Marcy Holmes and Maggie Menghini over Escanaba’s Leslie Purcell and Sonya Maki, 6-3, 6-1; and No. 4 doubles Lexie Vross and Ellyce Doenier over Chloe Dutton and Morgan Gartland, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The No. 4 singles duel between Rizzo and Fulsher went more than two hours, Rutter noted. “It was a very even matchup,” she said.
“Today was a long day for the girls with the first day of school and the heat continues to be an issue for a few of the girls,” she added.
