West Iron County netters fall to Miners

NEGAUNEE — In their opening match of the 2021 season, West Iron’s girls tennis team was defeated by Negaunee, 8-0 in a non-conference matchup on Monday morning at Miners Stadium in Negaunee.

The most competitive flight of the match was at No. 2 singles where Daylyn Drew of the Lady Miners defeated Brynlee Nodruft of WIC, 7-6(5), 6-3.

“Negaunee was tough,” said West Iron tennis coach Joe Serbentas. “It was a good measuring stick of where individuals are at and what we need to work on.”

The Wykons (0-1) return home for another non-conference matchup on Wednesday as they welcome Ishpeming to Nelson Field in Stambaugh.
