Calumet spills Mountaineers

CALUMET — Despite the outcome of the match, Iron Mountain’s volleyball team gave perennial power Calumet a scrappy game, as the Copper Kings defeated Iron Mountain, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) in a West PAC Conference dual here Thursday night.

“The girls adjusted to Calumet’s strong hitting well. They played tough tonight and touch almost every ball, the effort was there and they left everything on the court,” said assistant coach Emma Thomann. “I am incredibly proud of them, it was a battle out there and they kept fighting.”

The Copper Kings jayvee swept Iron Mountain, 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) while also winning the freshmen contest, 2-1 (22-25, 25-23, 16-14).

Iron Mountain returns to action on Sept. 18 as they’ll compete in the Forest Park Invitational. The Mountaineers will host Manistique on Sept. 20 in West PAC and Mid-Peninsula Conference action.

Also on Thursday night in Harris, Bark River-Harris defeated rival North Central, 3-0 in a Skyline Central Conference matchup. The Jets return to action on Tuesday when they travel to face Skyline foe Superior Central.
