Florence earns volleyball win over Cardinals, 3-2

CRANDON, Wis. — In a tight match against Crandon in Northern Lakes Conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening, Florence defeated the Lady Cardinals, 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 25-19, 14-25, 15-9.)

“When we finally started attacking that’s when we pulled away. Morgan Tomczak was a force at the net with 21 kills and seven blocks,” said Florence head coach Teresa Chrisman. “I just needed her to get back to her hitting after her ankle injury, and she showed up tonight.”

Chrisman noted stellar play from freshman Kamdan Johnson, who had 17 assists.

“I ask a lot of Kam and she gets better every day. Bella Millan is also becoming a fantastic back row player and served 17 points.,” Chrisman added.

Maddie Johnson served 21 points and Leah Young led the Ladycats in digs.

“Super proud to see the girls show up and battle. They were all scrappy and it was fun volleyball tonight,” Chrisman stated.

The Florence JVs also beat Crandon in a tight match 2-1 (22-25, 25-16, 27-25). Lucy Reubens led the team with seven ace serves, Abby Price also had 13 serving points for Florence.

The Ladycats JV will play in a tournament in Iron Mountain on Saturday, while the varsity returns home to host NLC opponent Phelps on Tuesday in a varsity only match beginning at 6 p.m.
