Mountaineers defeat Ishpeming, fall to Westwood; Burgoon takes 2 singles matches

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Iron Mountain split a pair of tennis matches on Thursday, defeating Ishpeming 6-2 and falling to Westwood by the same score.
"Anika Cameron and Kensie St. John have had a lot of close matches lately, and it was great to see them put it all together and come out of here with a win," Mountaineers coach Marcus Celello said of the Ishpeming match. "Callie Bianco continued her run of strong play. She has been rounding into form this last week or two, and she really put it all together this match."
The Westwood match included a lot of close losses, Celello said.
"Aziza Burgoon continued her outstanding play. She has really been on a roll, and she still manages to find ways to take her game to the next level. Danika Juul and Rediet Husing have also been on a hot streak. They battled against Westwood in the Kingsford Invite finals, so they knew they were in for a tough match here. Every game was close, and they were able to come out on top," he said.
Burgoon and Juul/Husing were Iron Mountain's only two-time winners on the day.
The Mountaineers will host Menominee on Monday.
