Marquette gets by Flivvers 3-1 in Great Northern
MARQUETTE — Kingsford’s girls volleyball team traveled to Marquette for a Great Northern Conference contest Thursday, as the host Redettes defeated the Flivvers, 3-1 (25913, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17) at Marquette Senior High School.
“I am so proud of our girls and their willingness to keep battling tonight. We never gave up. We have not seen a hitter like (Marquette’s) Hruska yet this year and we did not shy away from her attacks,” said Flivvers head coach Jaclynn Kreider.
They (Marquette) have multiple offensive threats and run a fast tempo, so we needed to adjust. The girls were learning throughout the match and to me that is what matters. Tonight we got better and I am grateful for that,” Kreider added.
Kingsford returns home to host non-conference twin city rival Iron Mountain on Tuesday, before hosting Great Northern Conference foe Gladstone in make-up match from Sept. 2.
Marquette won the JV match, 2-1 (25-18, 23-25, 15-11) with the Flivvers freshman avoiding the clean sweep, defeating Marquette, 2-0 (25-17, 25-13).
