Jets, Mountaineers and Trojans take playoff grid wins on Saturday

IRON MOUNTAIN — Three area high school teams were victorious in MHSAA first-round football playoff games on Saturday afternoon.

Iron Mountain defeated Lower Peninsula opponent Frankfort 35-7 in a Division 8 matchup at Mountaineer Stadium. The Mountaineers will travel downstate Friday as they will face Beal City, who defeated Bark River-Harris 36-0 on Saturday. The game is set for 5 p.m. Central time Friday.

Defending Division 2 8-player state champion North Central defeated a Lower Peninsula foe as well, rolling to a 64-14 defeat of Pellston. The Jets will continue the defense of their 2020 state title next week as they’ll host a familiar foe, the Forest Park Trojans. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central time Friday in Powers.

The Trojans and head coach Brian Fabbri managed an 8-0 win over Lake Linden-Hubbell on Saturday afternoon at Ron Warner Field in Lake Linden. The Lakes had defeated FP 36-6 on Oct. 16 at Warner Field.
