Kingsford soccer holds off Northland Pines for 4-3 win at Commemorative

KINGSFORD — Northland Pines scored three goals in the second half but Kingsford held on for a 4-3 win in boys soccer Tuesday at Commemorative Field.

The Flivvers led 3-0 at halftime on the strength of three goals by Jaxon Buckley. The first came on a cross-pass from Dennis Neuens. Buckley’s second and third goals were assisted by Cade Counter.

“We were smoking hot the first half with great defense and ball movement,” said Kingsford coach Jeff Gordon.

“The second half we came out flat and struggled to move the ball. But our team regrouped. I was proud of our team, how they stayed strong to win the game,” he said.

Neuens scored the game-winner with an assist from Gavin Laydon.

Kingsford (10-4-2) faces Three Lakes, Wis., on Thursday at Phelps, Wis.
