Redmen, NC Jets No. 1’s in the final 2021 UPSSA grid poll

Flivvers back in UPSSA poll at No. 3 after knocking off Maroons; IM gets AP recognition in Division 8

NEGAUNEE -- There's quite a shakeup in this week's Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters U.P. Football poll on the 11-player side.

The final poll of the season has a different No. 1 team from last week as the Marquette Redmen retook the top spot, receiving three of five first-place votes from the panel.

Last week's No. 1 team, Menominee, dropped its final game of the regular season to Kingsford on Friday night, which moved the Maroons out of the top five. The Flivvers re-entered the poll in the No. 3 spot with 12 poll points.

Westwood, who defeated Negaunee Friday night to clinch the Copper Division of the West PAC Conference, finished the season at 8-1 and grabbed the other two first-place votes. Negaunee is No. 4 this week, while Calumet remains in the No. 5 spot.

Defending MHSAA Division 2 state champion North Central remains the No. 1 team on the 8-player side. The Jets are also the top-ranked team in the state in this week's AP Prep State Football Poll in all of 8-player. The undefeated Jets have held the top spot in both polls the entire season.

Forest Park dropped one spot into fourth and tied with Munising in this week's poll. Lake Linden-Hubbell moves up two spots to second, one spot ahead of last week's No. 2, Pickford, as the Panthers lost at home in overtime to Rudyard Friday night.

The Iron Mountain Mountaineers and head coach Robin Marttila received a single 10th place vote in Division 8 in the final Michigan AP Prep Football Poll this week.
