Back on track: Nordics get back to winning 45-24

3 min read

FELCH -- The North Dickinson girls basketball team broke a short two-game losing streak Tuesday with a 45-24 Skyline Central Conference victory over Norway in Felch.

Ashton Hord rang up 25 points to pace the Nordics (2-2) while Micah Lindholm recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

"Ashton had a great game tonight," North Dickinson coach Kirk Mattson said. "She shot the ball really well and was looking for her shot the whole game."

"North Dickinson was exactly what we expected," Norway coach Joe Tinti said. "They are a seasoned group with depth, and Ashton had a nice night as typical."

Tinti added that his team's inability to convert on offense simply put too much pressure on the defense.

Mattson credited the Knights (2-2. 2-1) for their toughness on the boards.

"I thought Norway outhustled us for rebounds in the first half," Mattson said. "We couldn't get our transition game going, which I think is our strongest suit, because we didn't rebound."

Despite that, the Nordics led from the start – 13-5 after the first quarter, 25-7 at the break and 35-14 after three quarters.

"North Dickinson is a nice team and it will be exciting to watch them work through the conference as the season progresses," Tinti said.

Flivvers fall on the road 53-42

GLADSTONE -- Gladstone overcame a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring visiting Kingsford 15-4 in the third quarter as the Braves picked up the Great Northern Conference win 53-42.

"We played well enough to put ourselves in a position to win," Kingsford coach Jon Lorenzoni said. "It was a competitive game. We came out and missed a ton of opportunities in the first half. Then we came out of the halftime locker room very flat."

The Flivvers (1-3, 0-1) were led by Laura Bracket with 15 points.

"Laura played a fantastic all-around game," Lorenzoni added.

Abby Terrian chipped in with 13 for the Flivvers. Finlandia recruit Claire van Ginhoven topped Gladstone with 28 points.

Rebels run by Ladycats 62-35

FLORENCE -- The Rebels ran out to a 36-12 lead after the first half and sent the Ladycats to the Northern Lakes Conference defeat 62-35.

Top scorer Isabella Millan was held to a season-low 14 points in the contest.

But Florence coach Brad Perry said it was the Laona-Wabeno press that did his team in.

"We really struggled with their pressure," Perry explained. "I told the girls we have to get better at that. We weren't prepared tonight. That's on me."
