Badgers bring home road win

WAUSAUKEE — The Niagara Badgers held Wausaukee to just nine points in the second half to break open a tight game and defeat the Rangers 49-28 in a Marinette & Oconto Conference girls varsity basketball clash Monday at Wausaukee High School.

Josie Rock scored 14 of her game-best 22 points in the second half to help the Badgers (3-1, 2-1) bounce back from their lone loss so far, a 54-45 defeat at Coleman on Dec. 3.

Leading just 20-18 at the break, Niagara locked in defensively and surrendered just three baskets in the final 18 minutes, all by Rachel Schlies, who topped Wausaukee with 16 points.

Rock hit all four of her team’s 3-pointers in the game and added 2 of 3 from the foul line. Mallory Sanicki produced seven points, while Morgan Borschardt and Bailey Pearson chipped in with five points each.

The Badgers get back into action on Friday when they host Norway in a nonconference clash.

Starting at $3.50/week.
