Flivvers score sweep over Manistique, Gladstone

2 min read

MANISTIQUE – The Kingsford swimming teams traveled to Manistique on Tuesday and had little trouble with the host Emeralds and Gladstone.

The Flivver girls won every event on their way to stockpiling 158 points, far ahead of Manistique's 61 and Gladstone's 54. The Kingsford boys (115) handled both the Emeralds (82) and the Braves (42).

In the girls event, Sydney Scott (100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle) Samantha Scott (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Adelaide McRoberts (100 butterfly, 200 individual medley) were double winners. Additionally, Anna Lundholm won the 500 freestyle and Sierra Scott captured the 100 freestyle.

"The girls had a pretty good meet going one-two in most events and winning every event," Kingsford coach Jim Lindstrom said. "A lot of the girls swam U.P.-qualifying times and some personal best times, even though Manistique's pool has no starting blocks. I am happy that we are well ahead of last year in our times."

Kingsford girls relay winners included Sydney Scott, Samantha Scott, Sierra Scott and McRoberts in the 200-medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, and Mackenzie Gilroy, Alyssa Englund Maggie Menghini and Anna Lundholm in the 200-freestyle relay.

The Flivver boys were topped by Zane Cahee, who bested the field in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly, posting personal bests and state-qualifying times in both.

Single-event winners included Tommy Lundholm (200 freestyle), Kaden Matuszewski (100 breaststroke) and Joey Lundholm (500 freestyle).

Cahee, Tommy Lundholm, Matuszewski and Joey Lundholm captured the 400-freestyle relay, as well.

"Both the boys and the girls were put in some difficult situations with some quick turnarounds with races only minutes apart and they performed extremely well for being the early part of the season," Lindstrom said.
