FP hoopsters off to positive start

Trojans open Price era with win over Superior Central 59-29

Forest Park varsity hoopsters Sam McKissack (20) and Kevin Giuliana (10) watch as their teammate, Michael Saario (33), goes up and over Superior Central defenders in the Trojans’ win Thursday night.

CRYSTAL FALLS — Forest Park sophomore Gavin Rintala and freshman Kevin Giuliani made sure that first-year head coach Jason Price started his varsity coaching career with a bang.

The Trojan duo each scored 16 points to lead Forest Park to a 59-29 rout of Superior Central in a Skyline Central Conference game Thursday at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium.

Forest Park led 11-5 after the opening quarter, but then left the Cougars in the dust with a 25-4 second quarter to go up 36-9 at the halftime break.

“I thought everybody played hard and it was definitely a group effort,” Price said. “Everybody got to play, the bench was going crazy and it was a good night.”

Rintala sank five 3-pointers in the contest for the Trojans.

Trojan Gaven Rintala (24) lets loose a shot over a Superior Central defender in his team’s season-opening win Thursday. Rintala sank five 3-pointers in the contest.

Forest Park also received six points each from sophomore Felix Queveda and junior Sam McKissack.

Price also credited senior Ethan Kopf with “lifting up the defensive energy.”

Zach Trusti led Superior Central with 14 points.
