CRYSTAL FALLS — Forest Park sophomore Adan Brazeika scored 14 points to lead five Trojans in double figures as Forest Park routed rival West Iron County 90-34 on Monday at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium.

Freshman Kevin Giuliani contributed 13 points to the winning effort, Gaven Rintala scored 12 and Felix Quevedo and Ethan Kopf added 10 each for the Trojans (2-0).

Forest Park took a 23-9 lead after the opening eight minutes and increased the lead to 51-26 at the halftime break.

The Trojans then outscored the Wykons 39-8 in the second half.

“It was a fast-paced game,” Forest Park coach Jason Price said. “Our bench gave us a big lift in this game.”

Matthew Dutcher topped West Iron with 13 points, while Gavin Stapleton added seven.

“The team had problems breaking the diamond-and-one press and (committed) too many turnovers in the backcourt,” said West Iron coach Curt Olexa after his first game as Wykon boss. “Need to get better at that, which the team will get better at.

“Give Forest Park credit,” Olexa added. “They just gave a better effort this night.”

Niagara 77, Wausaukee 54: Niagara freshman Tommy Martin exploded for 31 points, including 16 in the first half, as the Badgers stepped out to a 43-24 lead over host Wausaukee on their way to the Marinette & Oconto Conference victory Monday.

“We finally played a game with all the starters,” Niagara coach Terry Youren said. “We did a nice job defensively and shot much better. We also had only a few turnovers which makes a big difference. We are improving as a team.”

Junior Edward Swanson added 16 points for the Badgers (1-2, 1-1) and fellow junior Nicholas Krueger added 11, including three 3-pointers.

Laona-Wabeno 55, Florence 47: Connor Taylor poured in 24 points and Reed Christianson chipped in with 17 as the Rebels knocked off the previously unbeaten Bobcats in a Northern Lakes Conference game in Florence on Monday night.

The Bobcats (3-1, 1-1) held a 31-25 edge after the first half, but Laona-Wabeno controlled the second half.

“Tough one tonight,” Florence coach Bryan Bomberg said. “We have some things to learn from this game. We missed a lot of shots tonight that we traditionally knock down. Little things like 50/50 balls and them shooting 15 free throws and us shooting two.”

The Rebels connected on 10 of their 15 free throws. Florence hit both of its charity shots.

“Tough pill to swallow, but I can promise you this, we will learn from this, get better and come back stronger,” Bomberg added. “We are better than 16 points in the second half.”

Dominic DeMuri led the Bobcats with 14 points, while William Kelley posted 12 and Evan Johnson logged 11.
