Grand night: Hord scores 1,000th point in Nordics’ win

POWERS — North Dickinson senior Ashton Hord became the fourth girls basketball player in school history to break the 1,000-point barrier Friday night when the Nordics defeated North Central 48-24 in a Skyline Central Conference game at Powers.

Hord broke the plateau on a layup with about five minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The game was stopped and Hord was presented the ball. The players on both teams offered their congratulations.

“I’m super excited, just because I knew it was coming up,” Hord said afterward. “I didn’t want it to change the way we played. I was definitely very nervous and it was a great moment to have.”

North Dickinson coach Kirk Mattson gave credit to the North Central team for their acknowledgement of Hord’s accomplishment.

“It was very impressive and North Central deserves a lot of props,” Mattson said. “That showed a lot of class.”

Hord has been a mainstay on the North Dickinson varsity team. Prior to this year, she has been named to the all-U.P. first-team has been selected to the all-Skyline Central Conference twice.
