Ladycats hold off Wolverines

FLORENCE, Wis. -- Isabella Millan scored 35 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and recorded five steals to propel Florence to a 44-38 girls basketball victory over Crivitz on Tuesday at Florence High School.

Neither team shot well in the game, with the Ladycats finishing 14 of 54 from the floor for 25.9 percent.

"It was the first game back after the Christmas break and it was kind of sluggish and sloppy early," Florence coach Brad Perry said. "Crivitz is a well-coached and fundamentally sound team, and for us, we just had a hard time putting the ball in the basket."

Case in point was Millan, who shot connected on 11 of 36 (31%) and only 1 of 10 from the 3-point arc. However, Millan hit 12 of 14 from the free throw line and the Ladycats sank 15 of 19 overall, good for 79%.

"We iced the game at the free throw line," Perry said. "We didn't miss a free throw the last six minutes or so."

Kamdan Johnson added seven points for the Ladycats (7-2), who have won six of their last seven contests.

Next up for Florence is a road date with Division 5 state runner-up Three Lakes tonight.

"That will definitely be a challenge for us," Perry said. "They have a lot of length and their point guard (Kara Sowinski) is a four-year starter."
