POWERS — On the night that senior Ashton Hord scored her 1,000th career point, the North Dickinson Nordics doubled up host North Central 48-24 in a Skyline Central Conference-Small girls varsity basketball game on Friday in Powers.

Hord scored 18 of her 20 points over the final three quarters when the Nordics (4-2, 1-0) outscored the Jets 38-18. With the victory, North Dickinson has now won three straight.

Hord thanked both sets of fans for their recognition of her special night.

“The Nordic crowd also made it an experience I’ll never forget,” Hord said. “They were very supportive and had a whole bunch of signs ready and surprised me.

“North Central, too,” she added. “They stopped the game and announced it and I even got the game ball.”

Chrislyn Inglese knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 14 points overall to aid in the Nordic win.

North Dickinson coach Kirk Mattson credited his team’s defense afterward.

“The girls were locked in on the defensive end,” he said. “They take pride in their defense. It’s the strength of our team and we feed off of that.”

Mattson added that, despite the fact that she scored only two points, Micah Lindholm was a key offensive factor in the game.

“She did a unreal job of facilitating from the inside, kicking out passes to find our shooters,” Mattson said.

North Central couldn’t get on track offensively, really, until the fourth quarter when they scored 12 points.

Gracie Kleikamp hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 points to lead the Jets.

North Dickinson hosts unbeaten Carney-Nadeau on Wednesday, while North Central plays at Norway on Thursday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
