Swim teams post mixed results
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Kingsford girls swimming team swept every event and the shorthanded boys finished just three points from victory in the Flivvers’ dual meet with Manistique on Tuesday in Iron Mountain.
The Flivver girls defeated the Emeralds 128-27, while the Kingsford boys fell 74-72.
In the girls event, Adelaide McRoberts swam a 24:56 to lower her own team record in the 50 freestyle by .97 seconds. She also won the 100 and 50 freestyle races.
Samantha Scott captured the 200 and 500 free, while Sydney Scott was victorious in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. Sydney, Samantha and Sierra Scott and McRoberts won both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay. Petr Grubb, Alyssa Englund, Maggie Menghini and Anna Lundholm recorded a win in the 400 free relay.
“The girls had another good meet,” said Kingsford coach Jim Lindstrom. “Manistique has a small girls team and we just out-numbered them along with winning every event.
“We had a couple of our first-year girls get their first high school wins,” he added
Alyssa Englund won the 100 backstroke in U.P. qualifying time of 1:20.87, while Olivia Rake (1:31.59) got her first win in the 100 breaststroke. While not winning the 200 freestyle, Petra Grubb dropped 18.07 seconds to swim a UP qualifying time of 2:33.58.
On the boys side, Joey Lundhom won the 200 IM in 2:16.19 and the 500 freestyle in 5:23.93.
“Joey Lundholm continues to just drop time in huge chunks in winning (those events),” Lindstrom said.
Lindstrom added that Zane Cahee cut his time substantially in winning the 100 breaststroke and finishing second in the 100 fly.
Additionally, Cahee, Thomas Lundholm, Michael Mulligan and Joey Lundholm won the 400 free relay.
“One of the boys better swimmers was out sick, and it really caused us to jumble stuff around,” Lindstrom said. “While the boys didn’t win, they still swam really well.”
