GLADSTONE -- In his breakout rookie season, Iron Mountain's Oskar Kangas has had many highs along the way.
On Monday, the 6-foot-5-inch guard/forward set a new standard with 35 points in the Mountaineers' 61-41 rout of the Braves in a varsity boys basketball game at Gladstone High School.
Iron Mountain, which has won five straight and nine of its last 10, used a huge second quarter to separate from Gladstone after a 10-10 opening period. Kangas scored 15 of his points during the period to go with a 3-pointer from Reece Kangas and a bucket each from Joey Colavecchi and Ian Marttila.
"Very good win down in Gladstone," IM coach Harvey "Bucky" Johnson said. "Great second quarter. Nineteen assists on 24 baskets, which is excellent."
The Mountaineers (15-4) increased their advantage to 48-23 at the end of the third quarter and coasted from there.
Oskar Kangas shot 10 of 16 on two-pointers and 3 of 4 from the 3-point line. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and added four steals.
"Oskar had an outstanding night," Johnson said.
Reece Kangas buried 3 triples, Marttila dished out seven assists and Colavecchi recorded five assists, six rebounds and three steals for the winners.
The Mountaineers close their regular season with a home conference matchup against Negaunee on Thursday.
