Niagara to play at Spring Swing

MARQUETTE -- After a two-year absence, the Spring Swing Softball Invitational is coming back to the Superior Dome at Northern Michigan University this weekend.

Coming from around the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin, 25 high school teams will take part from Friday through Sunday for a chance to play softball while waiting for last of the snow to go away.

One of the teams participating in the 2022 Spring Swing will be the Niagara Lady Badgers. Coach Brad Richtig's team will begin play, and its season, with a game against Baraga at 3 p.m. Central. Later on Friday, Niagara will take on Lake Linden-Hubbell in a contest set for 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Badgers will wrap up their opening weekend by facing Pickford at 11 a.m. Saturday.

According to organizers, Friday includes four games on each field with games starting from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday's play opens at 9 a.m. with the last game starting at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday's action starts at 8 a.m. and the invite wraps up with the last games at 5 p.m.

Admission is $5 on Friday, and $10 each for Saturday and Sunday. A weekend pass can be purchased for $15, while ages 12 and under are free.

For a new twist, the Northern Michigan University club team will play Lake Superior State in a doubleheader at 2 and 3:30 p.m. (EDT) Sunday.
