Northern Storm, ND claim titles at Bobcat Invite

FLORENCE, Wis. — Local track athletes finally got the opportunity to compete outdoors on Thursday five local schools participated in the Bobcat Invite at Florence High School.

Under a steely-colored sky and with winds blowing steadily, the Northern Storm (Florence-Niagara) boys and the North Dickinson girls left with titles.

In the boys competition, the Northern Storm boys totalled 136 points with Norway (119), West Iron County (91), Forest Park (85) and North Dickinson (68) rounding out the field.

In the girls event, the Nordics scored 126 points with Florence-Niagara (122.5), West Iron County (117.5), Forest Park (49), Carney-Nadeau (44.5) and Norway (40.5) trailing.

Blake Smith of the Northern Storm led the boys competition with three victories in the 110 hurdles (16.5), the 300 hurdles (43.5) and the long jump (19-5).

Forest Park’s Sam McKissack won the 200 meters (25.4) and the high jump (5-5), while Norway’s Aiden Richards captured the discus (107-9) and the triple jump (37-9.5).

Other individual boys winners included Patrick Milan of Northern Storm (:11.6 in the 100 meters), Spencer Kramer of North Dickinson (:57.9 in the 400), Gaven Rintala of Forest Park (2:29.5 in the 800), Seth Axley of Northern Storm (5:53.1 in the 1,600), Johnothan Swenski of West Iron (12:29 in the 3,200) and Evan Bruemmer of Northern Storm (39-11 in the shot put).

West Iron captured both the 1,600 relay (Daniel James, Bradly Jochem, Kyle Carlson, Landon Sundelius in 4:02.7) and the 3,200 relay (Nick Mattson, Riley Rosengren, Daniel James, Dylan Nodurft in 10:00).

Forest Park won the 400 relay (Reagan Alder, Grayson Sundell, Gaven Rintala, Sam McKissack in :49.8) while Norway topped the field in the 800 relay (Gabe Hautamaki, Bryce Neuens, Eastyn Dwight, Austin Dwight in 1:43.8).

West Iron County sophomore Danica Shamion led the girls athletes with three firsts. She won the 100 meters (:12.9), the 200 meters (:27.2) and the 400 (1:02.3). Florence freshman Kamdan Johnson recorded victories in the 110 hurdles (19.1) and the triple jump (28-10), while Taylor Adams of Norway captured the 800 (2:50) and the 3,200 (14:59).

Other individual winners included Mya Grunlund of North Dickinson (6:42.3 in the 1,600), Charlie Larson of Forest Park (:58.6 in the 300 hurdles), Katarina Hemeleski of West Iron County (28-3.75 in the shot put), Malorie Baumler of Carney-Nadeau (73-05 in the discus), Sienna Stine and Calli Pellizzer of West Iron (tied at 4-0 in the high jump) and Morgan Borschardt (13-10.75 in the long jump).

The Nordics won the 800 relay (Chrislyn Inglese, Ashton Hord, Hailee Siegler, Vanessa Lindholm) and the 1,600 relay (Micah Lindholm, Hord, Aubrey Applekamp Vanessa Lindholm).

West Iron won the 400 relay (Madison Berutti, Cheyenne Ritchie, Rowyn Fiszer and Hailee Bradshaw) and Forest Park captured the 3,200 relay (Tatum Clark, Skylar VanOss, Ellie Ayers and Lilly Post).
