Good start: Niagara begins M&O play with pair of victories

LENA, Wis. — The Niagara Lady Badgers tipped off their M&O Conference volleyball slate with a pair of victories Thursday at the Lena Triangular.

Niagara edged the hosts 18-25, 25-10, 24-26, 25-12, 15-11 and swept past Gillett 25-14, 25-10, 25-11.

“We worked hard against Lena and they played us well,” Niagara coach Carol St. Arnauld said. “When we got our serves over, we dominated. Our net play and control improved throughout each set. As the night progressed, my team continued to play up to their potential and were able to take Gillett in three.”

Morgan Borchardt led the Lady Badgers with 18 kills, 15 digs, seven aces and 42 assists in the two matches. Erin Lukowicz added 14 kills, 17 digs and five aces, while Emma Broullire powered down 13 kills with three digs and two blocks.

Raegan Frappier led Niagara servers with 12 aces, while Rachel Walker and Mallory Sanicki chipped in with two blocks each.

Defensively, Abby Wells recorded 13 digs, Emma Brasure added 11 and Sanicki logged 10.

“I’m happy with the results at the end of the night,” St. Arnauld added. “I know what these girls are capable of, they just need to believe in their abilities, and we will do some good things this season.”
