Niagara flag football set for 54th season

NIAGARA, Wis. — The 54th season of the Niagara flag football program will kick off on Monday, Aug. 22.

The program is open to all area boys and girls, split into two groups – grades 2-3 and 4 through 6. For the first two weeks, all grades will meet on Mondays Grades 2-3 will also meet on Tuesdays while grades 4-6 will also meet on Wednesdays.

All practices will run from 6-7:30 p.m.

Players should wear appropriate football clothing. Grades 4-6 will wear shoulder pads and helmets. The league can provide this equipment or players may wear their own.

The league will also provide flags when games begin.

Soccer shoes and tennis shoes may be used. No hooded shirts allowed.

Games begin in the third week and will normally be scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays, except for holidays and Packer games.

The league stresses football rules, safety and learning the game.

The season concludes in early October with the final game to be played at the Niagara High School football field.

No fees or preregistration required and volunteers are welcome.

The league was started in the fall of 1969 by Sam Chartier. Last season, more than 70 kids from seven communities participated.
