IRON MOUNTAIN -- Norway freshman Lauren Adams finished fifth overall in the girls race and Ethan Congdon wound up seventh overall in the boys race to lead local competitors at the co-ed Kingsford Invite on Tuesday at City Park.
In the girls race, Adams finished the course in 25 minutes, 56.4 seconds to make the top five. Taylor Adams came in right behind with a time of 26:15.7 for sixth.
Kingsford sophomore Iona Shilton led the Flivvers with a time of 28:09 for 14th place.
The overall winner was Endla Harris of Negaunee, who ran a 22:29.1
The Miners won the team title with 20 points, with Escanaba following at 36. Kingsford, Norway, Stephenson and Menominee did not field a complete team.
In the boys event, Kingsford senior Ethan Congdon led local competitors with a seventh-place finish in 20:46.1. Flivver sophomore Joey Lundholm ran a 21:20.2 to place 10th, while Norway senior Brent Lagina led the Knights with a 21:47.7 for 14th.
Negaunee also won the boys championship with 36 points. Escanaba placed second with 53, Stephenson was third with 66, the Flivvers finished fourth with 79 and Menominee ended up fifth at 104. Norway, Gwinn and Holy Name did not field a complete team.
John Plaxco of Negaunee won the individual trophy in a time of 19:51.3. He was the only sub-20 runner in the field.
