KINGSFORD — Kingsford varsity volleyball coach Jaclynn Kreider wanted her girls to stay focused on the fundamentals that she had them working on in recent practices. Against visiting North Dickinson on Tuesday, she got her wish.
The Flivvers displayed a balanced attack with 37 kills and put together a serving percentage of 90% on their way to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-12 sweep of the Nordics at Kingsford High School.
Maddy Kreider led Kingsford in kills with 10, followed by eight each from sophomore Jenna Viau and sophomore Kailey Sundquist. Laura Bracket chipped in with five, Elaina Bortolini and Alexis DalSanto added two each and Hayden Johnson recorded one.
“Great team effort,” coach Kreider said. “Everyone contributed in their respective roles. We did an outstanding job of limiting unforced errors.”
Kingsford had many contributors across the board. Alyssa Larson dished out 19 assists, while Kreider added 13. Kreider also supplied a team-best nine aces and contributed six digs. Viau also recorded six digs, while Ellery Nash had five and Larson and Bracket logged four each.
Bracket also registered three aces in the victory.
The Nordics were playing for the second consecutive night. And for the youthful squad, which graduated seven seniors off last year’s team, Kingsford provided a useful lesson, according to coach Taylor Johnson.
“It’s definitely a rebuilding year for us,” Johnson said. “I think we’re better for playing (Kingsford). We definitely learned a lot.”

The North Dickinson varsity volleyball team had a bit more success in its home opener, sweeping visiting Norway in three games 25-14-25-5 and 25-11 for the match win Monday.
Senior Micah Lindholm helped lead the Nordics with 10 digs, seven kills, five aces and 100% serving. Senior Aiden Hord also contributed five kills with 100% serving, while junior Delaney Kramer went on 13-point serving streak (with 100% on the night) with five aces.
“Overall, it was a great team win,” Johnson said. “Everyone contributed and was able to see some quality time on the court, which is always our goal.
“Norway was able to go on some nice runs, especially in the first set, so it was nice to see our team be able to stay calm and collected and just play our game.” Johnson added.
