Norway’s Adams leads area runners at Munising
MUNISING — Norway freshman Lauren Adams led local runners with a ninth-place finish at the El Harger Cross Country Invite on Tuesday in Munising.
Adams finished the course in 22:09.3 to finish inside the top 10.
Kingsford sophomore Joey Lundholm led area boys runners by finishing 18th in 18:55.7.
In the girls competition, Marquette took the team title with 26 points. Kingsford placed sixth with 162 points, while Norway and North Central did not field a complete team.
Norway’s Taylor Adams also finished in the top 25, placing 25th in 24:08.1.
Kingsford’s girls contingent was paced by Iona Shilton, who posted a 24:56.8 for 33rd. Other Flivver girls competing included Alaina Kowalski (26:04.2), Aitana Vanaclocha Canet (26:33.4), Taylor Olsen (27:52.7) and Lily Villringer (28:37.7).
North Central was led by sophomore Ella Riley, who finished 54th in 27:38.5, while junior Faith Javurek ran a 27:49.1 to finish 55th.
Ishpeming’s junior standout Lola Korpi won the girls individual championship in 20:03.9, 42 seconds better than runner-up Endla Harris of Negaunee.
The Marquette boys made it a sweep by winning the team trophy with 19 points. Kingsford finished seventh with 158, while Norway and North Central did not field a complete team.
Flivver senior Ethan Congdon also wound up in the top 25, finishing 21st in 19:08.2. Other Kingsford runners included Michael Mulligan (20:18.2), Isaac Olsen (21:13) and Joshua Cameron (23:17.5).
Sophomore Weston Knauf topped North Central with a 21:09 for 43rd. Jesse Sampson ran a 21:15 and Alex Pipkorn posted a 21:21.4 for the Jets.
Norway sophomore Sean Dowrick finished in 22:02 for 54th and sophomore AJ Gallino recorded a 23:10.1.
Marquette senior Carson Vanderschaaf ran a 16:10.9 to win the boys individual title.
