NIAGARA, Wis. — Tuesday turned out to be a special night for the Niagara girls varsity volleyball team, and it wasn’t because the host Badgers swept Oneida Nation 3-0 (25-4, 25-10, 25-14) in impressive fashion.

The match was also Seniors Night. Not to mention, it was the last regular-season home match for long-time varsity coach Carol St. Arnauld.

“We honored St. Arnauld’s 36 years of coaching as this will be her last year coaching Niagara volleyball,” said Badgers assistant coach Christie Borchardt. “It is hard to imagine Niagara volleyball without thinking of Coach Saint, as she has truly impacted so many players on and off the court.

Many players — past and present — contributed to this special night by sending videos which were presented prior to our match with Oneida,” Borchardt added. “We are proud of the girls because there wasn’t a dry eye on the team while the video played. Yet, they were ready when it was game time.”

A plethora of Niagara players helped to overwhelm Oneida, with the Badgers being led by Morgan Borchardt who tallied five aces, five kills, 16 assists and seven digs on the night.

Borchardt was just one of six players to record a kill in the victory. Mallory Sanicki had a team-high 11 kills to go with two aces, one block and three digs, while Erin Lukowicz chipped in four kills, one ace, two assists and five digs, and Emma Broullire added three kills, one block and one dig.

Other contributors for the Badgers included Raegan Frappier with a team-best eight aces and six digs, Abby Wells with two aces, one kill, four assists and three digs, and Emma Brasure with two kills and one dig.

“This team continues to develop confidence in the frontline,” Coach Borchardt said. “We have some great weapons, and when we setup our offense, good things happen. We need to be consistent against all teams regardless of the opponents level of play.

“Oneida continues to grow but struggled to keep the ball in play,” she added. “We will take this win and continue to work hard as we prepare for the rest of the season and regionals. I’m confident that this team will push themselves throughout the rest of our season as they are passionate about the sport and honoring Coach Saint.”
