Going on the run: Flivver boys tie for 2nd at Norway Invite

NORWAY -- The Kingsford boys varsity cross country team put two runners in the top four and three in the top 15 to finish tied for second in the coed Norway Invitational on Tuesday.

Ethan Congdon ran a 19:01.7 to finish third in the individual competition and Joey Lundholm finished right behind his teammate in 19:05.9 to take fourth for the Flivvers. Kingsford senior Isaac Olson also placed in the top 20, winding up 15th in 20:37.

Stephenson captured the boys team trophy with 40 points. Republic-Michigamme tied the Flivvers for second with 56.

Runners from North Central, Norway and Northwoods Storm also competed in the event, though the schools did not field enough runners to compete in the team standings. North Central sophomore Weston Knauf also finished in the top 10 with a 10th-place result in 19:55.7.

Other area runners that placed in the top 20 included Norway's Brent Lagina (11th in 20:10.3), North Central's Jesse Sampson (13th in 20:12), Norway's Sean Dowrick (16th in 21:12), North Central's Alex Pipkorn (18th in 21:23.9).

Northwoods Storm was led by senior Matt Bousley, who placed 27th in 22:59.3.

Munising sophomore Danny Goss won the boys individual crown in 18:12.9.

In the girls event, the Jets finished fourth with 80 points, with Munising capturing the team prize with 26 points. Kingsford, Northwoods Storm, Norway and Forest Park also put runners in the race, but the teams did not field a complete squad.

Locally, Norway freshman Lauren Adams led the way with a fourth-place result in 22:07.8. North Central's Hope Varoni took fifth (22:42.6), Northwoods Storm's Abbey Tripp finished sixth (22:46.4) and Norway's Taylor Adams wound up 10th (23:11.8).

Other area runners finishing in the top 20 included Northwoods Storm's Ingrid Holt (16th in 25:02.9), Forest Park's Tatum Clark (17th in 25:04.2) and Kingsford's Iona Shilton (19th in 25:21.9).

Ishpeming's Lola Korpi won the girls individual trophy in 19:56.6.
