IM finishes regular season in style 55-6

MANISTIQUE — Luke Wolfe ran for two touchdowns and caught another, while Bradon Farragh rushed for two and Joe Colavecchi threw for a pair as Iron Mountain crushed Manistique 55-6 in its regular-season finale against the Emeralds on Friday night.

With the victory, the Mountaineers close their regular campaign at 8-1, having won their final eight games.

“We took care of business, which was the goal,” IM coach Robin Marttila said. “We got on them early and it was just one of those games.”

Iron Mountain took a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter and extended that to 42-0 at the halftime break. The Mountaineers added a touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth to build a 55-0 lead. Manistique scored late to account for the final margin.

Iron Mountain compiled 430 yards of offense, 308 on the ground and 122 through the air.

Sophomore Michael Dove finished as IM’s leading rusher with 93 yards on five carries, including touchdown. Wolfe finished with 70 yards on just four carries and Farragh had 59 yards on five attempts.

Iron Mountain’s other score came on a pass from Joe Colavecchi to Matthew Colavecchi.

Now, the Mountaineers turn their attention to the MHSAA Division 8 playoffs. Iron Mountain will host Ishpeming (4-5). The date and time were not yet determined, as of Sunday night.

The Mountaineers defeated the Hematites 28-8 just two weeks ago.

“Everything gets amped up in the playoffs,” Marttila said. “You want to be involved, our program wants to be involved in the playoffs every year and our players work to get into the playoffs.

“They have a chance to make great memories.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
