Jets stay perfect, roll over Trojans
POWERS — The top-ranked North Central Jets continued to roll here Friday night in a 42-0 eight-player football triumph over the third-ranked Forest Park Trojans.
North Central (9-0) recorded 446 yards in total offense while extending its state-record winning streak to 32 games.
“North Central is as advertised and a very good football team,” said Forest Park head coach Brian Fabbri. “They have good size, speed and are very aggressive on the field.”
Jets senior Luke Gorzinski got the ball rolling for North Central by throwing a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Messenger, then added a TD on an 82-yard run, giving the Jets a 15-0 lead in the first quarter.
Elijah Gorzinski gave the Jets a 22-0 cushion on an 88-yard dash and Luke Gorzinski tossed a 39-yard aerial to Dillon Raab for another score for a 28-0 advantage.
Raab then scored his second TD on a 24-yard fumble recovery for a 36-0 halftime advantage.
Jake Gorzinski ended the scoring on a three-yard run late in the third stanza.
Luke Gorzinski ran for 95 yards on five carries and hit 5-of-8 passes for 113. Elijah Gorzinski rushed for 85 yards in five attempts. Jacob Gorzinski had 74 on five carries and Raab caught three passes for 60.
Defensively, Luke Gorzinski collected seven tackles and Andrew Webber added six, as the Jets limited Forest Park to just 64 yards in total offense. The Trojans were also just 1 of 8 on third-down conversions, compared to 2 of 3 for North Central.
Nikolas Stephens led Forest Park offensively by hitting a perfect 5 for 5 passing attempts for 55 yards. He also ran for 13 yards on 12 carries.
Will Curtis had two receptions for 38 yards. Curtis also led the Trojans on the defensive side of the ball with six tackles, including three solo hits.
“Myself, along with coach (Chris) Nocerini and coach (Gerald) Valesano are very proud of how our team competed the entire game,” Fabbri said. “We had some starters out and tried some different looks on offense and defense and now have some good film to learn from.”
The Jets host Stephenson (6-3) and Forest Park (7-2) hosts Lake Linden-Hubbell (6-3) in Division 2 regional playoff openers Friday at 7 p.m. (EDT).
“We are looking forward to the playoffs and another match against Lake Linden-Hubbell this coming Friday at home,” Fabbri added. “This rivalry goes way back and we are expecting another hard hitting game.”
