MARQUETTE -- The annual Upper Peninsula Soccer Tournament for boys high school teams will kick off at the Kaufman Sports Complex in north Marquette on Saturday .

Three fields will be employed for nine teams, which includes favorite Marquette Senior High School in Division 1 and the Negaunee Soccer Club in Division 2.

All teams not reaching their respective championship games have a chance to play for third place during the 10-game schedule which gets underway starting 10 a.m. (EDT).

Other teams include Houghton, Iron Mountain, Kingsford and Sault Ste. Marie varsity teams in Division 1; and Bayside Soccer Club (Escanaba), Copper Country Christian from the Keweenaw and Houghton JV in Division 2.

Instead of playing the usual high school 40-minute halves, the games Saturday will have 30-minutes halves with a five-minute intermission. Tie games will immediately be decided by a five-player shootout, with a sudden death shootout after that if needed.

Medals will be awarded to individuals on the top three teams in each division, with a team trophy to the champion.

Admission is $5 per person for the entire day of games.
