Lady Trojans sweep NC

POWERS — Forest Park took control of its varsity volleyball match against North Central early and went on to sweep the Jets 3-0 (25-5, 25-11, 25-1) on Tuesday at North Central High School.

FP coach Bobbie Anderson said her team’s forceful play spelled the difference in the match.

“We came out ready to play tonight and never let up,” Anderson said. “The girls brought a lot energy and did a fantastic job staying aggressive and sticking with our game plan.”

Outside hitter Ema Stepien recorded 10 kills and junior middle hitter Leah Feldhausen added five to pace the Lady Trojans’ attack. Setter Charlie Larson dished out 17 assists and served 13 aces and libero Ashlynn Kannich posted four aces, two kills and two digs for the winners.

RAPID RIVER — The North Dickinson Nordics had a fun road trip Tuesday, coming home with a 3-0 sweep (25-9, 25-18, 25-18) of host Rapid River.

“All 12 players had quality time on the court and it was a great team win,” Nordics coach Taylor Johnson said.

Mya Grunlund jump started the match win with a serving run, going 100% from the serving line with six aces. She also chipped in five digs.

Meanwhile, Micah Lindholm paced the Nordics’ offensive attack with 10 kills, two blocks, eight digs, three assists and three aces. Johnson also credited Aiden Hord with playing a solid all-around game with six kills, seven digs, 100% serving and two aces.

Also contributing to the team victory and “playing strong for the Nordics,” according to their coach, were Lily DePotie with two kills, three digs, one assist, 100% serving and two aces, and Gabby Schultz with 11 assists, eight digs and three aces. Maggie Mattson led North Dickinson’s defense with 12 digs and one assist.

CHASSELL — Junior Haiden Gill fired seven aces and added five kills to go with seven kills from senior middle Calli Pellizzer and six from junior middle Danica Shamion as West Iron County nipped Chassell 3-2 (25-27, 25-6, 25-10, 17-25, 15-11) for a nonconference win Tuesday at Chassell High School.

Kali Harty added 15 assists and six aces for the Wykons. Shamion also served effectively and finished with five aces.
