Jets garner top gridiron honors
ESCANABA — The undefeated and top-ranked North Central Jets garnered numerous accolades on the 2022 Great Lakes East Conference team in a vote by league coaches on Oct. 24.
The Jets, who’ve won a state-record 32 consecutive games including back-to-back 8-player Division 2 state titles, were the conference’s team of the year, Leo Gorzinski was selected as coach of the year and senior Luke Gorzinski was picked as both the offensive and defensive player of the year.
Other North Central players honored included senior Dylan Raab (first team offensive hybrid, linebacker), junior Max Nason (first team offensive lineman, second team defensive lineman), senior Jordan Messenger (first team defensive lineman), senior Drew Webber (first team defensive lineman), senior Dylan Plunger (first team defensive back), senior Owen Eichmeier (first team defensive hybrid), junior kicker Adrian Mercier (first team kicker), Elijah Gorzinski (second team wide receiver), senior Collin Cordy (second team offensive lineman), junior Jacob Gorzinski (second team defensive back) and Lane Gorzinski (honorable mention).
The Norway Knights and the Forest Park Trojans were also well represented. Norway players honored included sophomore Cole Baij (first team quarterback), senior Michael Peterson (first team wide receiver), junior Ian Popp (first team defensive back), junior Wyatt Spade (first team return specialist), senior Tyler Neuens (second team running back), senior Isaac Lorenzoni (second team offensive lineman and second team defensive lineman), senior Kyle Napientek (second team linebacker and senior Shane Swanson (honorable mention).
Forest Park players honored included senior Sam McKissack (first team running back and second team linebacker), Kevin Giuliani (sophomore defensive lineman), senior Adrian Bruette (second team offensive lineman), junior Felix Quevedo (second team defensive back) and senior Payton Woollard (honorable mention).
North Dickinson also put players on the all-conference team including freshman Spencer Kramer (second team wide receiver), junior Antonio Inglese (second team linebacker) and senior Matthew Steinbrecher (honorable mention).
