MARINETTE, Wis. — The Niagara Badgers hit the road and then hit host St. Thomas Aquinas Academy hard for a 3-0 win (25-6, 25-7, 25-3) in a Marinette & Oconto Conference clash Tuesday.

“STAA is a young team that continues to work hard to improve,” said Niagara coach Carol St. Arnauld. “They have a good coach and, in time, they will get there.”

As she’s done all season, Morgan Borchardt led the Badgers’ winning effort with seven kills, one block, 19 assists and three digs. Mallory Sanicki chipped in a solid all-round performance with a team-best eight aces, four kills, one bock, two assists and one dig, while Abigail Wells tallied seven aces, five kills, five assists and seven digs in the conference win.

“Our goal was to minimize errors and be strong at the net,” St. Arnauld said. “My girls succeeded in meeting that goal and continue to play hard. We are looking forward to finishing our season strong and maintaining our high level of play throughout regionals.”

KNIGHTS 3, EAGLES 2

NORWAY — The host Knights needed all five sets to beat the Hannahville Indian School Soaring Eagles 3-2 (25-8, 16-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-10) in a nonconference match Monday.

“The girls came out strong,” said Norway coach Erika Racine. “We are still a pretty young team this year and it showed as the sets went back and forth. They are learning to work together and understand each player.”

The victory featured some strong individual efforts by the Knights, including Italian exchange student senior Giorgia Policaro.

“Giorgia had a 14-point run to finish out the game,” Racine added. “She has been a great addition to our team in all aspects.”
