FELCH — The Forest Park Lady Trojans swept the Norway Knights in the opening round of the MHSAA Division 4 District 99 on Tuesday at North Dickinson County High School.

With the victory, the Lady Trojans advance to the final to meet the district hosting Nordics tonight. North Dickinson topped Watersmeet in Tuesday’s other semifinal.

The match between Forest Park and Norway was competitive for the first two sets before the Lady Trojans won the third going away to record a 25-17, 25-20, 25-9 triumph.

Junior middle Leah Feldhausen and junior outside hitter Ema Stepien both sent down 10 kills to lead the FP attack.

“We started off the game aggressively and played very well as a team,” Feldhausen said. “We are ready for Thursday and happy about the win tonight.”

Setter Charlie Larson dished out 21 assists while also recording six digs and two aces. Defensive specialist Ashlynn Kannich led the FP back row with 12 digs.

Freshman Ava Fischer topped the Lady Trojans’ servers with three aces, while Lauren Kudwa added two aces. Kudwa also supplied three assists, while Audrey Franz finished with four digs, two kills and an ace.

Stepien had the team’s lone block.

Forest Park coach Bobbie Anderson said her team did not play at its apex in the victory.

“We definitely didn’t play our best tonight, however, we did enough to win,” she said. “The gym was quiet and we played flat. But we are going to celebrate the win and prepare for the district championship.”

NORDICS 3,

NIMRODS 0

FELCH — In the second match of Tuesday’s district semi-final, North Dickinson dominated the Watersmeet Nimrods for a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-12, 25-18) in its opening round match to set up a district finals clash with rival Forest Park.

North Dickinson’s Micah Lindholm paced the winning effort with a solid all-round performance that included 10 kills, six digs, one assist and three aces. Aiden Hord “was also tough tonight,” according to Nordics coach Taylor Johnson, with six kills, eight digs, three aces and 100% serving.

Other contributors for the Nordics included Mya Grunlund (2 kills, 5 digs, 4 aces), Lily Depotie (2 kills, 2 digs, 1 ace, with 100% serving), Gabby Schultz (14 assists, 6 digs, 4 aces) and Jessica Harwath (4 assists, 1 dig).

“I thought we did really well from the serving line, hitting 92% on the night,” Johnson said. “We weren’t sure what to expect from Watersmeet and wanted to come out fast. By the third set we had settled in a little too much and got a little too comfortable. But I’m proud of the way we came back in the game and got it back up to our speed.”

The district final matchup will give the Nordics a chance to avenge not one, but two, regular-season losses to the Trojans.

“We are really looking forward to an exciting match up with Forest Park for the district final,” Johnson said. “They’re tough and it should be a competitive match.”
