Powell leads IM all-conference selections

IRON MOUNTAIN — Senior outside hitter Ellison Powell led Iron Mountain’s all-Mid Peninsula Conference picks with a first-team selection in a recent vote of league coaches.
Mountaineer players name to the 2022 all-conference second team were senior setter Emma Ellis and senior setter/defensive specialist Leah Winch. Winch was also picked to the MPC all-defensive team.
Manistique junior setter Emma Jones was selected as the league’s player of the year, while Manistique’s Amy Nixon was picked as coach of the year.
Joining Powell on the first team were Manistique senior outside hitter Nora Cunningham, Negaunee senior middle hitter Eliana Juchemich, Ishpeming junior middle blocker Addison Morton, Negaunee senior setter Rachel Niskanen and Manistique junior middle hitter Ella Schuetter.
Other players named to the second team included Negaunee junior middle hitter Ashley Bell, Ishpeming senior outside hitter Faith Loman, Westwood senior outside hitter Madison Marta, Manistique senior middle hitter Sarah McDaniel and Gwinn senior setter Lena Pleaugh.
The honorable mention list included Ishpeming freshman middle blocker Mya Hemmer, Manistique senior defensive specialist Ava Hinkson, Westwood junior outside hitter Megan Marta, Gladstone senior libero Devin Messina, Negaunee senior right-side hitter Martha Rutherford and Manistique senior outside hitter Carley Schoenow.
Joining Winch on the all-defensive team were Cunningham, Hemmer, Messina, Manistique sophomore libero Kamry Flodin and Negaunee junior libero Marisa Hird.
