Season comes to end for IM with district defeat
MANISTIQUE — The 2022 Iron Mountain volleyball season came to an end Wednesday when the Mountaineers were beaten by host Manistique 25-18, 25-15, 25-20 in a MHSAA Division 3 District 66 semifinal match.
The Mountaineers finished 31-21 in all competitions for the 2022 season, including 4-2 in the Mid Peninsula Conference, 4-4 in the West Pac Conference, 1-3 in non-conference dual matches, 21-14 in tournaments and 1-1 in district tournament play.
Seven seniors played their final matches for Iron Mountain — Emma Ellis, Leah Winch, Shyanne Pearce, Chloe Maycroft, Ellison Powell, Isadora Carmo and Belle Tregillis.
“I think we played our hearts out,” Iron Mountain coach Jeanne Newberry said. “Seniors played hard.”
Maycroft led the IM attackers against the Emeralds with nine kills, while Powell recorded seven and Pearce had two. Winch topped her team with six digs and added eight assists and Ellis posted a team-best 11 assists.
Additionally, Pearce recorded five digs, Winch logged six digs and an ace and Powell posted four digs.
Maycroft led IM’s servers with three aces and Tregillis fired two. Carmo added two digs and a kill, while junior Izzy Lewis contributed four digs and three aces.
Manistique hosts Bark River-Harris in the District 66 final.
