MONCTON, New Brunswick (AP) — Dalibor Dvorsky, Robert Baco and Filip Mesar scored in a 3:19 span in the second period and Slovakia beat the United States 6-3 on Wednesday in the world junior championship.

Libor Nemec, Peter Repcik and Alex Ciernik also scored for Slovakia and captain Simon Nemec had three assists in the Group B game. Adam Gajan made 23 saves to help Slovakia rebound from an opening 5-2 loss to Finland on Tuesday.

Tyler Boucher of the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s scored twice for United States. Michigan forward Gavin Brindley added a goal and Colorado College goalie Kaidan Mbereko made 30 saves. The Americans opened Monday with a 5-2 victory over Latvia.

The U.S. will face Switzerland on Thursday.

TENNIS STAR MAKES RETURN

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Novak Djokovic has arrived in Australia almost a year after he was deported over his stance against COVID-19 vaccination, Tennis Australia confirmed.

Djokovic will open his 2023 campaign in Adelaide as he prepares for a shot at a 10th Australian Open title. The 21-time major winner has been granted a visa by the Australian government and is listed to play at the Adelaide International, which starts Sunday.

The 35-year-old Serb arrived in Adelaide on Tuesday night, the governing body confirmed.

GIANTS SIGN LB FROM LIONS

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants signed veteran linebacker Jarrad Davis off the Detroit Lions’ practice squad and placed guard Shane Lemieux on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Davis, drafted 21st overall by Detroit in 2017 out of Florida, has spent five of his six NFL seasons with the Lions. He played for the Jets in 2021. The 28-year-old has played in 67 regular-season games with 50 starts.

FORMER BREWER JOINS GIANTS

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Left-hander Taylor Rogers is joining twin brother Tyler as a reliever with the San Francisco Giants, agreeing to a $33 million, 3-year contract.

On April 11 in San Francisco, they both pitched in the same game, with Taylor playing for San Diego at the time. It was the second time in major league history that twins pitched in the same game and the first time on opposing teams.

The Giants on Wednesday announced the deal that will pay Taylor Rogers $9 million next season and $12 million each in 2024 and 2025.

Taylor Rogers, a 2021 AL All-Star for Minnesota, went 4-8 with a 4.76 ERA and 31 saves over 66 appearances in 2022 with San Diego and Milwaukee. His 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings is the best ratio over a full season of his career — 84 batters in 64 1/3 innings.

As is typical for Giants players, Rogers will make a donation to the Giants Community Fund of $45,000 in 2023 and $60,000 annually the next two years.

Taylor, a lefty, and Tyler, a righty, are from Littleton, Colorado, and turned 32 on Dec. 17.
