Teed off: Kingsford takes top spot at Norway Invite, Myllyla medals

NORWAY — Kingsford senior Cole Myllyla earned medalist honors with a 74 and led the Flivvers to the team title at the Norway Invitational boys varsity golf event Friday at Oak Crest Golf Course.

Myllyla finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Marino Pisani of Houghton for the individual title. Stephenson’s Owen Kuehnau took third with a 78, Manistique’s Landen Dougherty and Calumet’s Danny Loukus tied for fourth with an 80 each and Iron Mountain’s Cooper Pigeon rounded out the top five with an 81.

In the team standings, Kingsford finished with 332 strokes, two better than Houghton (334). Manistique and Calumet tied for third with a 340 each, while the Mountaineers placed fourth at 358 and Negaunee finished fifth with 360.

Other schools in the field included North Central (379, sixth), Norway (385, tied for seventh), Westwood (385, tied for seventh), Bark-River Harris (409, eighth), Stephenson (419, ninth), Niagara (432, 10th), West Iron (437, tied for 11th) and Forest Park (437, tied for 11th), Dollar Bay (438, 12th) and North Dickinson (458, 13th).

Rounding out Kingsford’s winning card were Nick Doran with an 83, Troy Watt with an 85 and Lance Harry with a 90.

Evan Moyer topped Norway with an 88, Connor Florenski led North Central with a 93, Nate Olsen paced Niagara with a 97, Hunter Loehr led Forest Park with a 97, Mason Anderson topped North Dickinson with a 98 and Brennen Horton paced West Iron with a 99.
