AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Steve Stricker won his third PGA Tour Champions major of the year, capping off a dominant weekend at Firestone with a 4-under 66 for a three-shot victory in the Kaulig Companies Championship.

Stricker was five shots off the lead after a second-round 73, but closed with rounds of 65-66 for an 11-under 269 total.

David Toms shot a final-round 65 to finish alone in second at 8 under.

The 56-year-old Stricker won the Regions Tradition in May, then triumphed two weeks later at the Senior PGA Championship.

WILDCATS ELEVATE DC BRAUN

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — David Braun has been elevated from defensive coordinator to interim coach at Northwestern for the upcoming season, replacing Pat Fitzgerald, who was fired this week due to a hazing scandal.

Braun was hired as the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator six months ago. He spent the previous four seasons in the same position at North Dakota State.

Fitzgerald was fired Monday after a university investigation found allegations of hazing by 11 current or former players. He has maintained he was unaware of the hazing.

TITANS LAND ALL-PRO RECEIVER

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans hope they’ve filled their major need at wide receiver with three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

A person familiar with the agreement said Sunday the Titans have agreed on a two-year deal worth $26 million with incentives that could push that to $32 million.

The Titans had the advantage of being the first NFL team Hopkins visited after his release by Arizona in May.

Hopkins would immediately boost a receiving group for a team whose head coach had more career NFL touchdown catches than anyone currently on the roster.

TEAMS ASK FANS TO BEHAVE BETTER

SAINT-GERVAIS MONT-BLANC, France (AP) — Tour de France overall leader Jonas Vingegaard is calling on fans to behave better at cycling’s biggest race after another mass crash marred the 15th stage.

The Danish rider says spectators should enjoy the race but “without standing on the road or pouring beers on us.”

Vingegaard leads Tadej Pogacar of Slovenia by only 10 seconds with the race about to enter its final week.

A day after a big pile-up forced several riders out of the race, there was another accident after 52 kilometers when a spectator on the side of the road inadvertently touched American rider Sepp Kuss and sent him to the ground.

Several teams joined Vingegaard’s call after the accident which didn’t trigger any withdrawals.
