NORWAY — The Kingsford All-Stars will enjoy some more time in the sun after winning the Michigan District 10 Little League 11-12 All-Star tournament.
Kingsford swept through the tournament, posting a unblemished 3-0 record and finished with a 3-1 victory over host Norway on Tuesday at Marion Park in Norway. It was actually the second time Kingsford had topped Norway, with the two teams facing off on Sunday in clash that ended with a 4-0 shutout win for Kingsford.
In Tuesday’s rematch, timely hitting helped Kingsford claim the district championship. Luke Rice scored the first run of the game on a triple to the fence and then scored on a throwing error by Norway, their only one of the game.
“It felt really good out there happy we came away with the win,” Rice said.
Hunter Ziller scored the first run for Norway in the third inning on a throwing error by Kingsford. Norway had the bases loaded but only managed to bring in one stranding five runners on base in the contest.

Kingsford responded in the fourth inning. With two runners, Colin Olsen singled to right to bring both runners home.
“It felt great to get the winning hit and for us to beat Norway on their home field was awesome,” Olsen said.
Norway starting pitcher Tyler Sternhagen allowed only three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in five and two-thirds innings of work.
“I pitched well, had fun out there,” Sternhagen said. “(We) just didn’t make enough plays to win.”
Kingsford’s Logan McCoy went three innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
“Felt good out there got pressure on us when the bases were loaded felt kinda crazy but we got through it felt good overall,” McCoy said afterwards.
Norway’s coach Scott Sternhagen felt it was a good game.
“It’s not how we wanted it to go,” the coach said. “But Kingsford is a great team we play them every year and its always a tough game.”
Kingsford will packs its bags and prepare for the state Little League All-Star Tournament starting Friday, July 21, in Petoskey.
Kinsgford’s coach Ed McCoy seemed exited for the kids opportunity.
“It’s an opportunity to continue our season,” Coach McCoy said. “We have played well and have a great group of kids I know there exited, so we will see what happens.”
