Area teams kick way to youth soccer titles in ’23
NIAGARA, Wis. — Champions were recently named in five age divisions in Soccer Association for Youth postseason tournaments.
More than 1,100 youths and teens from Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, Crystal Falls, Niagara, Wis., and Florence, Wis., participated in Northern Soccer League this season, according to club treasurer Kylie Dunn.
In the Wings Division, ages 8 and 9, Extreme of Florence, coached by Jennifer Grimord and Jacob Davis, took first place. Finishing second was Fiesta of Niagara, coached by Tony McCarthy and Dave Gauthier.
The champion in the Strikers Division, ages 10-11, was Vipers of Florence, coached by Paul Reed and Melissa Faccio.
Penguins of Niagara placed second, coached by Mark and Ilana Fitzpatrick.
The title in the Kickers Division, ages 12-13, went to Ducks of Florence, coached by Becky Wilcox and Melissa Faccio. The runner-up was Lasers of Kingsford, coached by Bruce Dunn and Dave Gauthier.
Cyclones, of Norway, took first place in the Minors Division, ages 14-15. Coaches were Matt Doney and Dennis Pineda.
Bear Cats of Kingsford placed second, coached by Chris Moore, Ginger Moore, and Beth Tappy.
The Seniors Division, ages 16-18, mixes players from all areas. First place went to Razorbacks, coached by Helann Ruhf, Ty Counter and Cade Counter. The runner-up in Seniors Division was Broncos, coached by Ashley Kinsella and April Engman.
