IM’s Hruska signs with Davenport University
IRON MOUNTAIN — After leaving her mark on the Upper Peninsula wrestling scene, including being the first girl to win a U.P. title, Shayna Hruska signed her national letter of intent to join Division II Davenport University on Tuesday at Mountaineer Gym.
A three-time state medalist, Hruska is currently the third -ranked girl wrestler in the state of Michigan in the 106-pound weight class. She was also honored with the title “MVP Wrestler” at the U.P. Finals in 2023, voted on by all the coaches at the competition.
She had her 100th win this year and ended her high school career on the podium, placing fifth in the MHSAA Girls Individual State Finals at Ford Field, and helping her team to the MHSAA Division 4 Team State Finals in Kalamazoo this year.
Hruska has also excelled in the classroom during her high school career, earning high honors status this school year.
She found her home with the Davenport Panthers, at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She plans to major in Pre-Medicine, and has received an athletic and academic scholarship to attend.
