Ishpeming wins Division 4 girls basketball state title
EAST LANSING — Jenessa Eagle scored 27 points to lead Ishpeming to the MHSAA Division 4 girls basketball championship with a 73-54 win over Kingston at the Breslin Center.
Eagle, a sophomore, had just two points through the game’s first 15 minutes, but exploded from there and drained five three-pointers. With the Hematites up by just a point at halftime, she scored 15 of the team’s 27 points in the third quarter as they built a 58-46 lead.
Ishpeming senior Jenna Maki, the school’s all-time leading scorer, ran into early foul trouble but finished with 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Today’s win marks Ishpeming’s first state championship in girls basketball.
