Kingsford girls grab another win in GNC

MARQUETTE — The Kingsford girls varsity golf team continued its chase for a Greater Northern U.P. Conference crown after breezing to a first place at The Heritage in Marquette on Monday.

The Flivvers ended the day with a 210 while Escanaba finished second with 215 points. Marquette was third (221) while Menominee (223) and Gladstone (288) rounded out the girls competition.

Kingsford’s Grace Maki finished the day in a three-way tie for first place with Abby Luke of Marquette and Mackenzie Doyle of Menominee.

They all shot a 50.

Maddy Zeuske ended the day in a tie for fourth with a 51.

Kingsford’s other finishers were Ella Rizzo (53) in seventh and Bryonna Sanders (56) tied for 11.

On the boys side of things, Kingsford ended the day in fifth with a 185. The Sentinels scored a 161 to lock up first.

Escanaba (168) was second while Gladstone and Menominee (177) tied for third.

Jack Pond, Marquette, was the low scorer on the boys side with a 39.

Nick Doran was the Flivvers’ top placer. He finished in a six-way tie for fourth after shooting a 41. Lance Harry ended in a tie for 10 with a 42. Owen Edwards (50), Jordan Bray (52) and Owen Olkkonen (59) also competed for Kingsford.

The next GNC competition is on Thursday in Escanaba.
