Local racers shine at Off Road Rumble

BARK RIVER — Day two of the 2024 Off Road Rumble in the U.P. saw its fair share of intrigue and drama at Bark River International Raceway Saturday.

After walking away with a win in the Sportsman SxS class Friday, Bark River’s Zack Wirhanowicz aimed for a repeat in front of his hometown crowd. While he made the podium, he was forced to settle for third place.

He wasn’t the only U.P. driver in the Sportsman SxS field. Ishpeming’s Carter Krook finished 10th, Escanaba’s Connor LaCasse finished 16th, Baraga’s Danielle Reeves finished 19th and Gladstone’s Bryce Carlson finished 20th.

Wilson’s Jersey Kleikamp finished third in the 170 SxS class. Menominee’s Lainey Gearhart finished 15th and Baraga’s Weston Brunk finished 18th.

In the 1600 Light Buggy class, Marquette’s Adam Heikkila finished 16th and Bark River’s Allison Wandahsega finished 18th. The Youth SxS saw Menominee’s Keegan Gearhart finish ninth.

The 1600 Single Buggy class had four U.P. racers in its field. Gwinn’s James Thompson finished third, Menominee racers Jeff Sakovitz and Lance Gearhart finished 15th and 16th, respectively, and Kendra Hayward finished 19th. A pair of U.P. racers finished inside the top 10 in the Stock Truck class. Rapid River’s Zachary Wennesheimer finished eighth and Wilson’s Kyle Jenshak claimed 10th.

A trio of U.P. racers finished inside the top six in the Super Stock Truck class. Gladstone’s Braden Beauchamp finished third, Marquette’s Scott Heikkila finished fifth and Kingsford’s Brad Barglind finished sixth.

In Pro Am SxS action, Bark River’s Paige Wirhanowicz finished 16th and Benjamin Heiting, also of Bark River, finished 22nd.

Two U.P. racers battled in the Pro Lite class. Felch’s Antonio Inglese and Champion’s Matt Wood finished seventh and eighth, respectively. In the Pro Spec class, Felch’s Porter Inglese finished seventh.
